STATISTICAL ANALYSIS
In order to make scanned data understandable and visual, statistical analysis must
be performed. The statistics used depend on the field types. Typical
data fields are Yes/No, Likert scales (such as a scale of 1-poor to 5-excellent),
simple options that are marked or not, numeric, and so forth. Counts, means,
medians, standard deviations, frequency distributions, and sometimes more complex
statistics are desired. Test items have to be compared to a key to develop
a score. Item analysis may be required. These statistics are then presented in tabular and graphical forms.
Our clients usually want a report that mirrors the survey form itself showing the
counts, means, and standard deviations of each answer, as appropriate. They
also like small graphs for each question showning the distribution of responses,
possibly including N/A responses. Several sample reports can be seen under
the
Custom Solutions
section.
For tasks involving analyzing multiple sessions and/or speakers, a ranking of the
sessions/speakers is usually desired.
Finally, cross-cuts of the information are occasionally requested where the client
wants to see the differences in responses for some or all questions for different
responses to a particular questions, such as "age", or "years of experience", or
"occupational position".
Where our standard reports can be used, the cost is less than developing custom
reports. We are available, however, to develop the custom reports when needed.
