OMR SOLUTIONS
True OMR scanning is probably the best approach for large numbers of forms which
require the highest accuracy and reliability.
By "true OMR" we mean use of mark sense scanners. We will use "OMR" to refer
to this. It is also called "hardware" OMR . "Image-based OMR" or "software
OMR" is the alternative that is not as reliable.
Thus, for test answersheets, recording continuing education attendance, ballots,
and high volume meeting evaluations, we would normally only recommend this true
OMR..
It is even superior to electronic data collection in many situations, such as 1)
large meetings where people would have to crowd to a limited number of kiosks to
record their session evaluations before the next sessions start; 2) Continuing Education
CEU credits that normally need an audit paper copy or certificate; 3) tests or ballots
where a paper trail is requisite; and 4) course evaluations where use of computers
to enter each attendee's evaluation is not feasible.
OMR scanning uses forms somewhat more expensive than plain paper because they have to be carefully
designed and printed within tight specifications. On the other hand, OMR scanning
is very fast and less expensive than image scanning. It requires no intermediate
processing since the output is an ASCII string of the marked information that can
be used directly in Excel or statistical programs.
THE STEPS OF THE OMR PROCESS
- Design the data collection form and have it
printed by a company familiar with specifications from the OMR scanner manufacturer.
- Distribute forms at meeting, courses, tests,
etc., making sure to provide marking instructions to people who will mark the forms.
- Collect marked forms, organize if necessary,
pack carefully, and send to Infoscan.
- Infoscan will put the forms through its OMR
scanners and generate raw scan results file as shown in the following:
- The raw scan results can be returned to you
for analysis, or Infoscan can produce statistical reports and charts of the results.
- Forms, data files, and reports will be returned
to you.
